GREETINGS FROM THE GARDEN

Hi Folks
I hope you are keeping well in mind and body since our world was turned upside-down only a few short weeks ago. Some big changes for us all in our routines, work-life, home-life and social-life. For me it has been a time full of reflection, tough decisions, attempts at planning...and gardening!

Sadly, Wellness Movement Studios, that Ange and I set up nearly 3 years ago, has been 'flattened by the curve'. We have made the tough decision to close Wellness Movement Studios with the final day on the 30th June, only 6 weeks away.

I haven't felt in a space to be able to offer any online classes or appointments over this time. And even though we have moved to Level 2, I don't feel like it is time to jump back into classes just yet. So until I have worked out a way forward, and a new space to work from, I will be offering private sessions in-person (until 30th June) and online (ongoing) at a reduced rate to make it accessible for anyone that wants it.

Now might be the time to have a good look at your movement goals and together we can map out a personalised programme to meet your needs.

Online and In-Person Private Sessions
Has this time at home created the space to take a birds-eye look at life and reassess what is important to you? Are you now feeling more energised to make some changes to your life to improve your health and mobility?

If you have some movement focussed goals that you would like some help with, I am now offering private sessions, in lieu of classes, at a reduced rate for the next while.

$25 for 30 minutes
$50 for 60 minutes*





Before our session, it would be worth taking some time to think about why you want to improve your movement? What movement goals do you have? Is there something specific you want to achieve? What will it add to your life? What do you want to get out of the sessions?

Do you want...

  • to be able to sit on the floor with ease to play board games with the grand/kids.
  • to feel confident enough to go tramping again?
  • to reclaim some strength/ balance/ mobility so you can do...(whatever your thing is)?
  • to turn back the clock and reclaim some of your natural movement abilities that you know are hiding in there somewhere

Or would you like...
  • some help with some specific movements or exercises and need some feedback or guidance?
  • some motivation to get going and have someone check in on your progress?
  • some ideas about how to tweak your home/work spaces for more movement?

This thinking will help focus the sessions so I can shape things to meet your needs.

*Assuming progress in Level 2 is favourable, in a couple of weeks time I will also be able to offer home visits to your place. Together we can set you up for movement success and look for opportunities to use your home or neighbourhood spaces for movement improvement! (*extra travel fee will apply)
Exercise cards- Shoulder and Upper Back Series- $20
This handy set of cards is a summary of the 25 exercises from the last class series. Each card includes a comprehensive description and photos to give you instruction of the exercise, so don't worry if you didn't attend the previous classes!

Think of them like movement vitamins for your upper back and shoulders. It doesn't replace a more nutritious movement diet, but it does helps fill in some movement nutrient gaps in the meantime.

The best bit... no need to log onto your computer! They can just sit it in the corner with your exercise equipment* so you can pick it up randomly to do a quick movement snack in the moment.
Suggestions on how to use them:

  • Pick 3-5 cards to focus on for the week so you can accumulate some adaptive change to the tissues involved.
  • Keep it fresh and cycle through to the next exercise each time you pick it up.
  • Choose one and repeat several times throughout the day or week until you feel really familiar with the instructions and can do it without the assistance of the card. You can then put the move into any moment that grabs you!

MovNat- Free online natural movement videos
You don't need to be shirtless and carry logs to benefit from some MovNat moves!

The MovNat website has tonnes of free video instruction about how to do natural human movements and even offers some movement flows if you feel like a class experience. Like Nutritious Movement, restoring the ability to be on the floor with ease is a fundamental practice. They use ground movements (great for hips and back) and get-ups as the base of lots of the exercises. Explore the website and see what you can find or sign up to their free workouts.

Body Wisdom Studio - Online classes (7-day free trial)
My friend and colleague Nancy from San Francisco runs a busy Restorative Exercise/ Nutritious Movement studio and they are still required to be at home 3 months down the Covid-19 track. Her classes are live (if you get up early! ... but you can watch up to 48 hours later in your own time) She is offering a 7-day free trial. Great fundamental exercises and educational classes on specific themes. Learn while you move. Joan from the Dynamic Aging book is also teaching some online classes here.

Mind In Movement- Free movement snacks
My fellow NZ based RES, Hazel from Christchurch has put together a selection of about fifty 10 minute videos of some key moves and ideas, all while you are having a coffee.
